Sabrina (Greek singer)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sabrina (Greek: Σαμπρίνα) is a Greek pop singer born in Zimbabwe to Greek immigrant parents. Her grandparents fled during the Greek-Turkish War and settled in Africa as many Greek refugees did so back then. The family moved back to Greece and Sabrina began her pop career.

Career

Sabrina took piano and voice lessons from an early age. She made her debut in 1992 with the album Stin Agkalia Mou Ela. In her next two albums Eleftheri and Ego Tha Ime Ego, she tried her skills at composing; she follows with three additional releases Gitonies Tou Feggariou, Epikindino Paihnidi, and Ipopsies. In 1994 she teamed up with Kostas Charitodiplomenos to compose Ftes. The song is entered in the OGAE Song Contest and won, bringing the trophy for the first time to Greece.

In the winter of 1998, Sabrina debuted in the international scene with the CD-single Do Ya Do Ya written by Joe Balyn and Peter Bauwens. In 2000, she released the albums; Boom Boom and in 2002 the album Breakfast Time. In 2003, she participated in the Greek selection for Eurovision with the song Camera-a dance anthem, and ranked 3rd in the public choise. After that she immediately released an album under the title Camera that was a commercial flop.

Most recently Sabrina has performed at a popular night-club in Greece called Chiculata with some of Greece’s most famous artists such as Yiorgos Xanthiotis, Shaya, and Stathis Xenos. In 2006 she did a photo spread for the magazine Maxim and in 2007 she did a photoshooting with her son Vaggelis for the Christmas issue of the Greek Hello! magazine.

Trivia

She is married to Greek basketball player Panagiotis Liadelis, (Greek: Παναγιώτης Λιαδέλλης), from whom she got a divorce recently.

Sabrina is an ace in backgammon, her favorite pastime when she is not working.

The couple have one child together.

The couple’s divorce was a massive issue for the Greek media. One of the reasons was that Liadelis had a love affair with the Greek video queen actress, Christina Pappa, and Sabrina claimed this to be one of the reasons for them to break up.

Her most popular song is a 90’s love ballad titled, Feggaria Kathreftes (Moon Mirrors).
